Dear EVF Friends,
It’s happening! Our first Fall Series kicks off with artist Elizabeth Decker starts next week, Tuesday, September 13th. I can’t wait to see what we will co-create during these times. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE “ARTISTIC” to participate! In fact, the less skilled you are, the better. Just bring yourself and your experiences. 1845 at St. David’s Episcopal Church: 301 E 8th St, Austin, TX 78701. Parking is free. We will run these workshops for 5 weeks, 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Please let me know if you plan on coming or are interested in coming. Bring a veteran friend for this. Our work will be presented at our November 4th Veterans Conference. In fact, it will be the centerpiece of the conference, so please show up and be counted.
EVF groups continue to meet all over Central Texas and beyond. See times and locations here.
Our November 4th Veterans Conference is open for registration. Please share this on social media, Facebook, Twitter. This is the best way to get the word out. You never know what veteran is reading your feed. Click here for online tickets and registration.
I signed our team up to be in the Texas Veterans Day Parade on November 11th. We have a float, a truck, but we need a supreme leader of the parade. Someone who can be there from start to finish. I’m praying at a fundraiser for Folds of Honor around noon in Steiner Ranch, so I cannot be that person. Please let me know if you want to be the Grand Poobah of the Parade. No parade experience necessary.
I have all the t-shirts. If you ordered one, please let me know so I can get it to you. These are a great way to tell our story and the story of Jesus meeting St. Martin the Soldier. NOTE: We hit a snag with our t-shirt vendor. But shirts will be available for purchase again very soon. Check back in 24 hours. Please buy them here.
The Woodrow Wilson Center, a non-partisan political think tank in DC, has set aside a table for 10 of us to attend their Awards Dinner at the Bob Bullock Museum on 29 September. I’ll be praying at this event and Admiral Bill McRaven, former Special Forces commander (the one who found Bin-Laden) and chancellor of UT will be the honored guest. Email me if you want a ticket. First come first served! Its free and in the evening.
The Rev. Christian Hawley has more plaques to make for the VA center. We will be finding time during the Fall to do this once again. It was so much fun last time!
Please share our story with your rector, your bishop, your congregation, veterans, your family, your pets. It is great to be part of this movement of bringing God’s love to veterans everywhere.
I know some of you don’t read these letters. The more professional a form letter, the more chance we have of ignoring them, I know. That’s how I am anyway. So, if you don’t read it, call me, email me, text me, or check my Facebook profile for what’s happening. I put most of my info out on my personal page. The EVF page costs $ to get the word out and not everyone sees it even if we do spend the $.
Please pray for me. On October 1-2, I will be attempting my first 100 mile trail race with my battle buddy from Iraq, Kurt Stein. He did it last year and now it’s my turn. So, please pray for me any or all of the 36 hours, starting on Saturday morning.
(It’s not a plus sign, it’s a Cross, indicating I’m giving you a Blessing! So peace and love be with you.)
